Herman L. Rutledge

Herman L. Rutledge, age 85, died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at his home in Pottsboro, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Herman was born on February 23, 1934 in Farmersville, Texas to the late Almar and Emily Dell (Cloninger) Rutledge. He married Edwina Selski on March 5, 1955 in McKinney, Texas. Herman served his country proudly in the United Sates Marine Corps during the Korean War where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United States Service Medal. He received his Honorable Discharge at the rank of Sergeant and continued his service in the 8th Marine Corps Reserves for five years. After his military service, Herman played minor league baseball. He also owned a commercial building construction company and really enjoyed building houses, especially building houses in McKinney and Princeton. He was a Baptist and was a member of the VFW Post #2150 The Lone Star Post, in McKinney. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Elmer Lee Rutledge, and two sisters, Jeanette Fox and Dorothy Jennings.

Herman is survived by his daughter, Edwina McCall; sister-in-law, LaQuita Rutledge; three grandchildren and several nephews.
