Joseph W. Carpenter of Naples, Florida passed away on July 31, 2013, after a long illness. Joe was born in Olney, Texas on December 26, 1925, to James Deboe Carpenter and Mary Arbanner Howard. He was the youngest son of eight children: Howard, Deboe and Clifford Carpenter, Harriet Johnston, Mary Merle Wright, Mattie Conally and Maudie Blomshield, all of whom preceded him in death. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II before graduating from Texas Tech in 1950. He worked as a Schlumberger engineer in the Texas oil fields and then brokered a very successful real estate business in the Rio Grande Valley. He was a citrus and mango grower in Texas and Florida.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Peggy Carpenter of Naples, Florida; his four children: son, Mark Carpenter (Susie) of Graham, Texas, son Gary Carpenter of San Antonio, Texas, daughter Cecile Anderson (Stephen) of Austin, Texas, and daughter Jocelyn Brantley (Joe) of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; as well as five grandchildren: Jessica Lorber (Daniel Encina) of Queens, New York, Nica Rayner (Jonathan) of Redwood City, California, Adam Sclafani (Crystal) of Misawa, Japan, Philip Renke (Tina) of Austin, Texas, and Rebekah Capps (James) of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and eight great-grandchildren: Samuel, Ezekiel and Caleb Encina-Lorber, Sophia and Keaton Renke, Kaylee Cagle, and Cheyanne and Casey Capps; his sister-in-law, Iva Jackson Carpenter and twelve nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Harrell Braddock, Jr., minister of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
