Obituary

Al Myers, 78, left for his Heavenly Home on Monday, November 24, 2014 in Olney, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Olney, Texas, with Reverend Chad Edgington and William A. Myers officiating. Burial with family and close friends will be at the Pioneer Cemetery in Olney, Texas at 11:00 a.m. Grandsons and Clancy Myers will be pallbearers.

Al was born in Olney, Texas, on June 15, 1936 to Allen Dudley and Bonnie Belle Elliott Myers. He spent all but five years of his life in Olney. Al graduated from Olney High School in 1954 and from Baylor University in 1958. While at Baylor he met Janis Carol Caskey, and they were married on July 12, 1957, in Corsicana, Texas. They had 57 wonderful years together.

Al had only three jobs after leaving Baylor. He was the manager of the Willacy County Chamber of Commerce in Raymondville, Texas, for one year. He then received a call to come home and work for Olney Savings. He started as a teller and worked his way up and eventually Al became President and CEO of Olney Savings. After the demise of the Saving and Loan Industry, Al was asked to come to work as President of Media Recovery in Graham, Texas. After the world wide companies of Media Recovery and Shock Watch were combined into Media Recovery, Inc., Al served as President until the company sold and he retired. He continued to serve as a Board Member for several more years. At each employment, Al had wonderful mentors who taught him about each business. He was also blessed to work with the "best fellow employees in the world".

Al loved his hometown and tried to show that love by serving on many Boards and serving as President of several. He served on the Chamber of Commerce, School Board, Library Board, Hamilton Hospital Foundation Board and anywhere he was needed. He was a retired Volunteer Fireman, and he had also served as Mayor of Olney.

Al loved God and tried to live his life as a Christian should. He loved his church, serving on many committees and in his earlier years taught Sunday School for High School boys. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church and Downtown Men's Bible Class of Olney.

Young people were very important to Al, and he supported them in sports as well as academics. He coached Little League Baseball for many years.

His two favorite past-times were having coffee with "The Cub Drug Bunch" and playing golf with "The Posse".

Family was very important to Al. Many Sunday afternoons were spent "down home" at the Myers homestead discussing politics and religion. His wife and his children were always upmost in his mind. He loved them and supported them in all they did. Many wonderful memories were made by Al and Jan as they followed their children and grandchildren all over the country, showing their love and support.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert E. Myers and all his aunts and uncles from both the Elliott and Myers families.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jan; his children: Kathy Myers of Dallas, Melody Rogers and her husband Ronald of Olney, Robert Myers and his wife Kanna of Coppell, Michelle McGee and her husband Glenn of Graham, Mike Myers and his wife Cindy of Aledo; his grandchildren: Raegen Rogers and her husband Dane Woodley of Austin, Riley Greer and her husband Garrett of Dallas, Rue Rogers of Houston, Reece Rogers of Waco, Drew McGee of Albuquerque, NM, Anna McGee of Savannah, GA, Mary Myers and Robert Alan Myers both of Aledo, Mackenzie Myers, Connor Lawyer, Grant Lewellen, Emily Jones and Kate Jones all of Coppell; nephews: Clancy Myers and wife Lora of Olney, Rick Hooker of Allen, Ralph Hooker and wife Sharon of Richardson; niece, Beth Ann Devrow and husband Kevin of Groesbeck, and sister-in-law, Rosalee Myers of Olney.

No visitation will be held, but a reception will be held at First Baptist Fellowship Hall after the memorial service. The family would love to visit then.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a church or a charity dear to your heart.
