Arlene Jackson Blancett, age 89, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at First Baptist Church Olney with Chad Edgington, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Arlene was born on September 26, 1925, in Ralls, Texas to the late Lon and Jessie (Ferguson) Jackson. After high school graduation, she attended Texas State College for Women, currently known as TWU, in Denton. She married Horace Cooper Blancett on June 7, 1945 in Graham. She taught at True and Olney before becoming the Director of Food Services at Olney ISD. She held this position for twenty-eight years. Arlene loved this job as it allowed her to share her love with Olney's youth by providing them with home-cooked meals that are still talked about today. Arlene loved people. She loved her students, her staff, her church family, and most of all, she loved her family. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Horace on October 19, 1998; one daughter, Diane Cotter on November 30, 2002; one brother, Boyd Jackson; and two sisters, Mary Jo Burton and Berta Turner.
Arlene is survived by three daughters: Elaine Winingham and husband Dan of Olney, Jacklyn Allmond and husband Theron of Southlake, and Gayle Palmer and husband Scott of Olney; one sister, Bobbie Davis of Springcreek; six grandchildren: Michelle Paul, Shelby Richardson and partner Kelly Millard, Julie Lane and husband Kenley, Jeff Palmer, John Palmer, Jodi Benham and husband Michael; eight great-grandchildren: Ashley Bitner and husband Brandon, Jon Paul, Brandon Paul, Cooper Lane, Luke Lane, Marlee Lane, Hudson Benham and Maddox Palmer; and five great-great-grandchildren: Lexi Paul, Aidyn Bitner, Jayda Paul, Harper Bitner and Ledger Bitner; and, one sister-in-law, Paula Davault of Arlington.
Family visitation will be Monday, November 24, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home.
