Becca Leo McWhorter, age 93, of Megargel, Texas, died February 5, 2015 at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. She had displayed her strong will and humorous caring attitude in overcoming strokes, two hip replacements and a heart attack over the last few years of her life and finally decided it was time to move on to a life of comfort in Heaven and even God seemed to let her make up her own mind. She was loved by her care givers and fellow residents and they helped her go in comfort as a caring team.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 7 at 12:00 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home, in Olney Texas with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Lunn Funeral Home with Scotte Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Megargel Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Leo was born in Throckmorton County on July 6,1921, to the late Walter and Elizabeth Evans. She and Boyd McWhorter were married on August 16, 1940, in Throckmorton, Texas. Leo graduated from Throckmorton High School. During the years following their marriage, Leo and Boyd lived in Fort Worth, Westover, and Megargel, Texas. Following World War Two they settled in Megargel where they lived until Boyd's death in 2003. Leo remained in their home until moving to Grace Center of Olney in January 2009.
Leo was co-owner of McWhorter Grocery in Megargel, Texas, and had a 10 year career at Russell Newman in Seymour, Texas. All the while she was devoted to her four children, the local Church of Christ and the Megargel School System. She loved her family, and she was an amazing cook who made everyone that sat at her table of plenty feel that at least one item on the menu was made just for them. She loved her grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren, her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law as though they were all her own. She helped friends and neighbors alike.
Leo was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd , five brothers, five sisters, and two of her daughters Wanda Revell and Linda Womack.
Survivors include one son, Travis McWhorter and wife Jo Ann, of Austin, Texas; one daughter Gwen Cook of Pflugerville, Texas; sons-in-law Jack Womack of Tyler, Texas and Larry Revell of Olney, Texas; eleven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends .
Memorials may be made to Megargel Cemetery Fund , P.O. Box 62, Megargel TX 76370. She also loved flowers, especially the red roses she and Boyd grew.
