Benjamin R. Sumbera, age 70, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018. Rosary will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Megargel, Texas. Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. immediately following the Rosary, with Rev. Bose Jujuvarapu, officiating. Interment will be in Megargel Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Benjamin was born April 7, 1948 in Olney, Texas to the late Richard Sumbera and Mary (Cernosek) Sumbera. He graduated from Megargel High School and then attended UT @ Austin and served in the Peace Corps for several years. He was a Master Electrician and was a meter reader for Texas-New Mexico Electric. He moved to Grand Prairie in 1974 from Megargel. Benjamin enjoyed hunting, liked photography, was interested in genealogy and was an author. Benjamin was a Catholic and had served as an altar boy at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Megargel.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Jackie Sumbera of Grand Prairie, Texas; his daughter, Melissa Sumbera of Mesquite, Texas; his sister, Bernice Gowens of Abilene, Texas; three grandchildren, Victoria Sumbera and Giovanni Sumbera both of Grand Prairie and Tyler Sumbera of Mesquite, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
