Betty Joyce Schmidt, age 85, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, in Graham. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Betty was born on March 30, 1937, in Olney, Texas to the late Lawrence D. Crain and Lily Belle (Rutherford) Crain. She graduated from Olney High School where she was elected both homecoming queen and football sweetheart. She lived in Olney most of her life until she moved to Graham in 2011. She married James Norman Schmidt on August 13, 1955, in Olney. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1989. Betty enjoyed going to rodeos and loved barrel racing. She was Rodeo Queen in the 1950's. Betty was a devoted church member of First Baptist Church and was one of the first volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels in Olney. She worked at Olney Savings and loved her job there with her many friends and co-workers. She also worked in the machine shop at Air Tractor until her retirement. Betty never met a stranger and she was very active in raising her grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Janet Nix.

Betty is survived by one son, Bryan Schmidt of Olney; one daughter, Alison Patrick and husband Tom of Graham; two grandchildren: Chris Jennings and Andrew Jennings; two great-grandchildren: Ryder James Jennings and Parker Ryan Jennings; and one sister, Shirley Regas of Dallas.
