Billie Odell Bishop, age 94, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11 am Monday, March 6, 2017 in Megargel Cemetery with Jared Bishop, Grandson of the deceased officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Odell was born on June 8, 1922 in Archer County, Texas to Dennis Lafayette and Bertha Irene (Stillwell) Bishop.
After high school graduation from Megargel High School, he trained in aircraft mechanics, joined the U.S. Army training as a liaison pilot in Air Observation and served in WW II in North Africa and Italy. He received the Silver Star, Silver clusters, and Oak leaf clusters for service from 1942 to 1945. He loved to fly a plane.
Odell married Roberta G. Bobbie Alexander in 1948.
As a farmer and rancher, he loved and honored the land. An avid story teller, brother, husband, father, and friend, he shared of himself. He worked as an oil field driller, roughneck, built houses, and shared what he learned from his trade. He was active in the community, served as deacon of the First Baptist Church in Megargel, and on the Megargel School Board for 12 years.
Odell was preceded in death by his wife Roberta G. (Bobbie) Bishop, son Barry Lee Bishop, his brother D.L. Bishop, and sisters Ida E. Hamby and Elda Mae Froman.
Survivors include; One son and Daughter-In-Law, Brent A. and Kimbra Bishop; One Daughter, Alisa Bishop; Three Grandchildren, Jared Bishop, Julia Bishop, and Jake Bishop. Many Nieces, Nephews, and extended family also survive.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home.
