Billy Spurlin, Sr., age 89, died Monday, April 18, 2016 in Newcastle, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church in Olney, officiating. Interment will follow in the Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Billy was born on July 18, 1926 in Haskell, Texas to the late Claude Hamilton Spurlin and Vivian Oree (Pirkle) Spurlin. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a tool pusher in the oilfield, and he later retired from Hexcel in the Honeycomb Plant. He was a lifelong resident of Newcastle and member of the Eastside Church of Christ. He married Billie Ann Cox on August 25, 1960. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1993.

Billy is survived by three sons: Billy "Butch" Spurlin, Jr. of Graham, Anthony Spurlin of Newcastle, Dennis Spurlin of Newcastle; one daughter, Mentzy Spurlin of Newcastle; two sisters: Mary Loveless of Wichita Falls, Texas and Claudine Hall of Diana, Texas: five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
