Bobby Perry McWhorter, age 86, of Godley, Texas, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Bristol Park Assisted Living in Cleburne, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2022, at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Doug Gaskey, officiating, assisted by Bob Alford. Interment will follow at the Megargel Cemetery in Megargel, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Bobby was born on October 1, 1935, in Westover, Texas to the late James Perry McWhorter and Mary (Key) McWhorter. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement and then began his lifelong career with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was stationed in many Texas communities including Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Dallas, Lubbock, McAllen and Garland. His final assignment was in Austin where he served as the Assistant Commander in the Intelligence Division until his retirement. Bobby was a member of the Johnson County Sheriff's Posse and an Honorary Texas Ranger. He married Elizabeth Freeland in 1977 in Fort Worth. He moved to Godley in 2000 from Garland. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Sherry Kellar and Sandra Barker.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Elizabeth McWhorter of Godley, Texas; two sons: Steve McWhorter and wife Tonya of Nocona, Texas and Jason Lindhorst of Godley, Texas; one granddaughter, Ashley Adams and husband Gary of Overton, Texas; two great-grandchildren: Cooper Adams and Scarlett Adams; and one sister, LaHonda Keeter of Elbert, Texas.
