Bonita Averett, age 71, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Carpenter, pastor, officiating, assisted by Dan Hooper. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Bonita was born on November 21, 1943 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Elvis Leon Goodman and Vera LaVerne (Bigham) Goodman. She was a proud graduate of the Old High Coyotes senior class of 1962. She married Dallas Rodgers and was the manager of Mr. Hero for fifteen years in Cleveland, Ohio. Seeking the life of a small town, she and her children moved to Olney in 1992. She married Tim Averett on November 18, 1996 in Olney. She was the owner of Bonita's Family Restaurant in Olney before her retirement. Bonita was a faithful member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Cumberland Presbyterian Women and the Cross Country Emmaus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Goodman; sister, Jean Land; and brother-in-law, Sonny Hickam.
Survivors include her husband, Tim Averett of Olney; her children: Del Rodgers and wife Annette of Olney, Renee Rockenbaugh and husband James of Cleburne, Barbara Rodgers of Olney, Rose Marie Rodgers of Cleveland, OH, and David Rodgers and wife Meika of Olney; fourteen grandchildren: Jeri Rodgers, Devan Rodgers, Celeste Rodgers, Cole Rodgers, Joshua Rodgers, Robert Rodgers, Matthew Rodgers, Joseph Rodgers, Ariel Figueroa, Ashton Burns, Lucas Rodgers, Melissa Cruz, Kanton Rodgers, Skylar Rodgers; four great-grandchildren: Kolton Rodgers, Kadence Rodgers, Natalie Rodgers, and Scott McAuliff; one sister, Leona Hickam of Olney, and sister-in-law, Piney Richards of Olney.
