Bruce Purdy M.D., age 76, of Muleshoe, Texas, died Friday, August 15, 2025 in Olney, Texas. He was born October 9, 1948 in Littlefield, Texas to John L. and Frances (Waxler) Purdy. He married Cindy Wilson in Galveston, Texas on June 1, 1976.
Bruce graduated from Muleshoe High School, and then attended Texas Tech University, and graduated in 1971 with a degree in chemistry. He then attended UTMB School of Medicine in Galveston, Texas, where he was a member of Phi Beta Pi Medical Fraternity. He graduated in 1976 and did his residency in El Paso, Texas. Bruce wanted to come home to Muleshoe, and he did just that on July 5, 1977 and practiced until he retired in December 2021. He was appointed by Texas Governor Clements to the Hospital Advisory License Council in 1990. Bruce was devoted to his medical family, loved his patients and mentored many medical students.
While in Muleshoe, Bruce was a Boy Scout Leader for his boys and received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given to an adult. He was also a member of the Muleshoe Rotary Club. Bruce was awarded Muleshoe Man of the Year twice, in 1987 and in 2020. He enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball. He was proud to be a Muleshoe Mule and was one of his hometown's biggest fans.
Bruce loved to travel. He had visited Tanzania, South Africa, Argentina and Canada. He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting with his sons and his friends. Bruce was devoted in his faith and to his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Muleshoe. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Cary Purdy.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Cindy; his three sons, Aaron Purdy and his wife, Samantha of Graham, Texas, Tyson Purdy and his wife, Kayla of Lubbock, Texas and Derek Purdy and his wife, Chelsea; and his five grandchildren, Rylan, Sophia, Arden, Reese and Ryker.
