Charles E. Parker, Sr., age 80, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015 in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Gary Tull of Graham, Texas, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney, Texas.
Charles was born on December 2, 1934 in Knox County, Texas to the late Mike and Melma (Holder) Parker. He married Ara Morgan on June 17, 1955 in Benjamin, Texas. Charles worked for Ferrier Bridge Co. of Seymour, Texas, building bridges in North Central Texas. He started his career in law enforcement in 1979, serving as the former Chief of Police in Electra, Texas, and as a deputy with the Young County Sherriff's Office. He moved from Newcastle to Olney in 1991, and was an officer with the Olney Police Department until his retirement in 1999.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Helen Neskorik; two grandsons: Bradley Jones and Alexander Lee Gill; one granddaughter, Vickie Parker; and son-in-law, David Winn.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Ara Parker of Olney; two sons: Charles E. Parker, Jr. and wife Cindy of Graham, Robert Parker and wife Janyce of Abilene; seven daughters: Denise Gill and husband Barry of Mineral Wells, JoAnn Curtis and John Hammond of McKinney, Betsy Berryman and husband Ricky of Burkburnett, Susan Parker of Graham, Sally Rollins of Olney, Jennifer Oustad and Justin Souther of Olney, and Lisa Parker of Olney; one brother, Benjamin Parker and wife Rosalee of Caldwell, Idaho; two sisters: Delores Trainham and husband Charles of Wichita Falls and Luellon Beck of Midland; twenty-six grandchildren and fifty-three great-grandchildren.
