Obituary

Christine Lanell Snow, age 81, died Thursday, December 5, 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Olney with Rev. Harrell Braddock, Jr., pastor, officiating, assisted by Richard Lunsford of Olney. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Lanell was born on December 18, 1931 in Littlefield, Texas to the late Melvin C. and Alice Christine (Morris) Wainscott. She graduated from Olney High School in 1948 and attended the University of North Texas where she graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics and Education. She received special teaching permits and worked on graduate school at Texas Woman's University. Lanell taught vocational homemaking in Spring Town, Paint Creek and Donna, Texas, and at the Denton State School. She then worked for three years as dietician at UNT. She returned to teaching at Denton ISD where she worked with special needs children, and eventually retired from Olney ISD.

Lanell loved quilting, fishing, camping, traveling and snorkeling. She loved traveling and experiencing new places, including Europe, the Caribbean and Hawaii. She loved her grandchildren and taught them many things. She has a quilted Hawaiian wall-hanging in the Texas Retired Teacher Association building in Austin, purchased by Governor Ann Richards. She was awarded Outstanding Teacher by the Big-Four Co-op in Olney, and won many awards for her quilting. Lanell was a longtime resident of Olney and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She, her Mom and Jimmie Lou were members of Sue's Quilters at the First United Methodist Church and made many friends there. She was also a member of the Olney Retired Teachers Association.

Lanell is survived by her two daughters: Karen Barton and husband Larry of Burleson, Texas, and Becky Goldsmith and husband John of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren: Courtney Hetzer and husband Ryan of Flower Mound, Texas, Eric Barton and wife Jennifer of Grapevine, Texas, Alex Hamilton, Amber Bailey and husband Rendal, Allison Goldsmith and Jonathan Goldsmith all of Fort Worth, Texas; four great-grandchildren: Landry Hetzer, Keeley Hetzer, Abby Bailey, and Ruth Bailey; and, two sisters: Jimmie Lou Wainscott of Fort Worth, Texas and Melva Martin of Austin, Texas.
