Dr. David Swaney Moore, age 73, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011, in Olney, Texas. A private committal service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Olney with Andy Graham of Southside Baptist Church officiating assisted by Kelly Russell of First Baptist Church, and Scotte Clark. Arrangements are under the ion of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Dr. Moore was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 7, 1938 to Tom and Minerva Swaney Moore. He and Patsy Hale were married on March 25, 1961 in Goldthwaite, Texas. He grew up in Webster City, Iowa, attended Iowa State University, and graduated from Northwestern University School of Medicine in June of 1963. He furthered his medical training at Denver General Hospital. Dr. Moore served as a Captain in the U.S. Army at Ft. Lee, Virginia. He started a family practice in Olney in 1967 and after closing his clinic he worked as an E.R. doctor at United Regional Healthcare Center, and at the Clinics of North Texas in their Clinic Care for ten years. He was a faithful Christian and served his Lord in many ways at First Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Cowboy Church. He had been very active in many community organizations. Dr. Moore was a beloved physician, a friend, and an encourager to many both young and old. He was preceded in death by his son, Jon David Moore, his parents, and a brother, Michael Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Moore of Olney, Texas daughter Debra Dyer and husband Barry of Holliday, Texas two grandsons Devin and Dalton Dyer of Holliday, Texas sisterinlaw Mildred and husband J.R. Chaney of Grand Praire, Texas nephew Tim Chaney of Dallas, Texas two nieces Glenda Stephenson and husband Randy of Clyde, Texas, Karen Ritcheson and husband Scott of Tyler, Texas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 67 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
