Obituary

~Dennis Clark Rodgers of Olney, Texas passed away on November 5, 2013 at his home, after a long illness. Dennis was born in Olney, Texas on October 10, 1950 to Clifton C. Rodgers and Mary Nell (Hitch) Rodgers. He remained a lifelong resident of Olney, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Dennis was honorably discharged after serving in heavy combat in the 23rd Americal Division of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, a Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Medal, a Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and Service Medal. He also earned the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnamese Presidential Unit Citation, and the Meritorious Unit Citation. He worked in farming and ranching for many years.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Leanne Townsend. He will be dearly missed by his mother, Mary Nell Rodgers of Olney, Texas; his brother, Danny Rodgers of Denton, Texas; his sister, Sandy Tomeo and husband, Richard of McKinney, Texas; three nephews: Chris Rodgers and wife Becky of Corinth, Texas; Craig Rodgers of Denton, Texas, and Taylor Townsend of Arlington, Texas; one niece, Jennifer Windham and husband, Michael of Sanger, Texas; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Harrell Braddock, Jr. of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Elbert Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
