Obituary

Diane Adelffin Evans, age 73 of Maui, Hawaii, passed away on July 17, 2022 at Maui Memorial Hospital. Her ashes will be scattered on Maui by close friends. Dates for a small gravesite gathering at Restland Cemetery in Olney and for a memorial on Maui are still to be determined. Friends will be notified once these dates are set.

Ms. Evans was born August 16, 1948 in Belen, New Mexico where her family was living on an Evans family ranch. She was raised in both Texas and New Mexico. She graduated from Olney High School. After high school she attended Texas Tech University. Later, Diane attended University of North Texas, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Special Education. In her adult life Diane lived in Dallas, TX; Crested Butte, CO; Corpus Christi, TX; Scottsdale, AZ; Naples, FL; and Olney, TX. She enjoyed all places, but Texas always held a special place in her heart. Ms. Evans continued to own the Pringle-Evans family home near Olney for many years. She had lived on Maui (a place she dearly loved) since 1999.

Throughout the years, Ms. Evans has been an educator, interior designer, retail store & design center owner, art consultant, artist, writer, workshop leader and creativity coach…and creator of beauty. During her years on Maui, she has been an active member of Unity Church of Maui where she spent many years as a prayer chaplain. For her, being able to be in sacred service was a great joy and honor. Diane believed that we are all artists creating upon the canvas of life.

She enjoyed spending time with friends, family, and her pets and loved talking often with her nieces and friends. Diane was active with sailing, snow skiing, hiking, and horseback riding. She won her first riding ribbon (2nd place) at age 3 at the New Mexico State Fair. As a youngster she was part of the Olney Riding Club. Throughout the years, she had taken extended horse pack trips. Some of her favorites were Yellowstone and Teton National Parks, Santa Fe National Forest, and various locations in Hawaii. Ms. Evans also took mule trips into the Grand Canyon and Kalaupapa, Molokai, HI. She even once rode an elephant in Bali. She sailed in numerous regattas and ocean trips; skied extensively in Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah; and hiked in many places. Diane loved to travel and experience different people and cultures. This included immersing herself in local customs and cuisines, making new friends, and visiting museums and historical sites. She was blessed to visit…and revisit…many places. Some of her favorites were Paris, Bali, Italy, London, and the American Southwest, especially Santa Fe. Ms. Evans loved living on Maui and exploring the Hawaiian Islands. Painting and creating beauty made her heart sing. She liked to watch movies, to read, delighted in learning new things, and she considered herself a student of life. Diane also enjoyed being a "foodie": cooking delicious food, setting beautiful tables, and entertaining cherished friends. Her days included meditation and prayer. No matter what life challenges occurred, she considered her life extremely blessed.

Ms. Evans was preceded in death by her grandparents Henry & Era Pringle and Ell & Alice Evans; her parents E.B. Evans, Jr. and Cherri Pringle Evans; and her brothers John and Henry Ell (Hank) Evans. She is survived by her niece Jennifer Evans of Lawton, OK, and niece Julie Evans & husband Anton Sisante of Dallas, TX. Diane also leaves behind many cherished friends.

Memorials may be made to Olney Library in Olney, Texas, Unity Church of Maui, Maui Humane Society, and Pacific Whale Foundation.
