Don Wesley Cox, age 77, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas, with Jeffery Janca, pastor of Frio Canyon Baptist Church in Leakey, Texas, officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Don was born on October 18, 1947, in Olney, Texas, to the late Rudyard Cox and Lora (Dunsworth) Cox. He married his wife of sixty years, Melody Parker, on September 5, 1964 in Acuna, Mexico. Don entered the police academy, where he graduated and began his career in Graham as a Deputy in Young County in 1987. He and Melody moved to Weatherford in 1992, where he was also a Deputy for Tarrant County until his retirement in 2008. In his free time, Don enjoyed doing construction and remodeling on their home. Don was also a Civil War buff and was a member of the Sons of Confederacy, where he could explore his love of history. He also enjoyed restoring antique clocks and guns.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his son Richard Wesley Cox, his grandson Wesley Herndon, his sister Melba Cox, and two brothers John and Frank Cox.

Don is survived by his wife, Melody Cox of Weatherford, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Herndon of Weatherford, Texas; his two grandchildren, David Herndon and Victoria Herndon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George R. and wife Ginger Cox, and Charles R. and wife Cara Cox, and one great-grandchild Hunter Herndon.
