Francis Dwight Hamilton, Jr., age 93, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Olney, Texas, with Rev. David Carpenter, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Dwight was born on October 10, 1921 in Humboldt, Tennessee to the late Francis Dwight Hamilton, Sr. and Annie Lou (Keenan) Hamilton. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1940 and attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. Dwight married Doris Katherine Campbell on September 24, 1944 in Olney, Texas. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1947 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Agronomy. He and Doris moved back to Olney in 1947 and began farming and ranching in the Elbert community. Dwight was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served as an elder. He was a member of the Hamilton Hospital Board of Directors, served on the Olney Independent School District Board of Directors for many years and was past President of the Olney Chamber of Commerce. Dwight was former President of the Texas Wheat Association and a member of the Texas Wheat Producers Board.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, on October 12, 2008, and one brother, Guy Keenan Hamilton.
Dwight is survived by one son, Francis Dwight Hamilton, III and wife Marti of Olney, Texas; one daughter, Katherine Ann Hamilton Gilmore and husband Dale of Olney, Texas; five grandchildren: Mike Gilmore and wife Charity of Archer City, Texas, Ira Gilmore of Olney, Texas, Molly Cauble and husband Robert of Albany, Texas, Parker Hamilton and wife Kim of Ft. Worth, Texas, Paige Cooper and husband Wes of Ft. Worth, Texas; seven great-grandchildren: Kooper, Mason, Samuel, Katey, Kasey, Koy, Tara; one sister, Mary Bryant of Trezevant, Tennessee; four brothers: Joe Hamilton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jack Hamilton of Humboldt, Tennessee, Jere Hamilton of Livingston, Texas, James Hamilton of Paris, Tennessee.
Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening, December 14, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home.
