Obituary

Gary Layne McGee

February 27, 1948-February 14, 2022

Gary McGee passed away on February 14, 2022, in Olney, Texas. He was born in Olney on February 27, 1948 to Orus McGee and Lena Petty McGee. He spent his life on the farm with his brothers and sisters. He graduated from Graham High School and attended Midwestern State University. Gary served in the US Army during the Vietnam War before being called home to work the farm after his father's passing.

Gary loved sports, especially the Texas Rangers. Although normally soft-spoken, Gary would cheer loudly for the Rangers. Gary also had a very contagious laugh, and his nieces and nephews remember his laugh to this day. Gary also taught the children's Sunday School class at Jean United Methodist when he was younger. He had a special place for God's children in his heart, and this continued as he grew older as his great-nieces and nephews enjoyed being around Gary when he would visit.

Gary belonged to a large family. Although his life seemed quiet and introverted, Gary's life and memory are important to his family. His family loved him, and he was an integral part of the McGee family.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Orus Lane McGee and Lena Henrietta Petty; his older brothers Kenneth McGee, Glynn McGee, and Darrell McGee; his sisters ElWanda Nall and brother-in-law Rex Nall, and Mary Evelyn McCanlies and brother-in-law Ed McCanlies. Gary was the last of Orus and Lena's children, and with him passes a legacy to be carried by his three sisters-in-law: Mary McGee of Henderson, Texas, Bonnie McGee of Jean, Texas and Sharon McGee of Monroe, Washington and his multiple nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Red Top Cemetery, with Rev. Harrell Braddock, Jr., pastor of First United Methodist Church in Olney, officiating.

The family greatly appreciates all of Gary's friends, especially Marilyn and David Ickert and Dennis and Sue Brown.

Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one's choice.
