Greg "Goose" Gibbs, age 64, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2024, at his home in Olney, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in the Newcastle Community Center. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

John Gregory Gibbs was born on June 15, 1960, in Olney, TX, to Floyd Andrew "Bozy" Gibbs and Nadine (Sloan) Gibbs. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1978. After graduation, Greg worked for Tuboscope and Graham Acidizing. He also worked for Howard Orr at Tom's Peanuts until he started his lawn care business. Greg realized his dream of having a farm and raising cattle. He loved watching the wheat and baby calves grow. Building fences and baling hay were chores he took pleasure in doing. Greg never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking and visiting with people. Anyone who knew Greg knew he had a lot of stories—some about past adventures and others about recent mishaps. With a knack for getting into "jams and jackpots," he was always entertaining. He had a way of putting people at ease and leaving you with a laugh and smile. Greg loved Newcastle and was proud to call the little town home. He considered the people of Newcastle friends and family. Greg and his tales will be greatly missed.

Greg is survived by his father, Floyd "Bozy" Gibbs of Newcastle, Texas; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Ryan Gibbs of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and David Brockman and wife, Sydney of Graham, Texas, his two grandchildren, Miller Friend and Lucy Brockman, his sister Cyndy Harrison of Lucedale, Mississippi, his brother and sister-in-law, Keith Gibbs and wife Priscilla of Lubbock, Texas, and his special friend, Dee Ann Gibbs of Newcastle, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nadine Sloan.
