Dean Fikes, age 89, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at his home in Newcastle, Texas. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home, with Cully Williams officiating. Graveside services will follow at Newcastle Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Dean was born to Thomas (T.C.) and Lois (Thompson) Fikes on March 25, 1936, in Snyder, Texas. After T.C.’s death, Lois moved to Newcastle, Texas, where Dean played on the football team. He attended Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin, where he received a football scholarship. Dean was a football coach in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for thirty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas ‘T.C.’ and Lois (Thompson) Fikes, and his brother Mack Fikes.
Dean is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Carpenter and husband Luther of Cypress, Texas, his grandson and grand-daughter-in-law, Thomas Hill and wife Bay of Cleveland, Texas, his two great grandchildren: Mason and Morgan, his two brothers and sisters-in-law: Wade and Edwana Fikes of Olney, Texas, and Jerry Tom and Nancy Fikes of Phoenix, Arizona, his sister LaVerne Sweeney of Prescott, Arizona, his sister-in-law Sandra Fikes of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
