~ Helene Emilie Bernhardt Kunkel, age 98, died September 26, 2013 at Hamilton Hospital in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 28, 2013 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olney, Texas, with Rev. Sean Reeves, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Helene was born November 15, 1914 in Olney, Texas to the late A.A. and Martha (Jentsch) Bernhardt. She had worked in the retail business and was a devoted homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olney, Texas, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Helene lived her life in service to her Lord and her family. She married Oscar M. Kunkel on October 27, 1946 in Olney and they made Olney their home for their sixty-three plus years of marriage. Oscar preceded her in death on February 18, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Oscar Kunkel in 1950, six brothers and four sisters.

Helene is survived by her son Perry Kunkel and wife Dianna of Olney, Texas; two grandchildren: Jarrett Kunkel of Wichita Falls, Texas and Emily Purtell and husband Jason of Arlington, Texas; and, three great-grandchildren: SeVayne Kunkel, Ashlyn Kunkel and (soon to be) Emerson Purtell.

Family visitation will be on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home.
