May 25, 1928 – September 25, 2021
Hollis James "Jake" Powdrill, age 93, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Advanced Rehab and Healthcare in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2021, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Mims, officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney, Texas.
Hollis was born on May 25, 1928 in Wills Point, Texas to the late King Powdrill and Zula (Britt) Powdrill. He served his country proudly in the United States Army, D Btry 933 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He married Lillian Martha Marie Everage on August 12, 1958 in Yuma, Arizona. He moved to Olney in 1973 from Pasadena, California. Hollis was a brakeman for General Tire in San Gabriel, California, and later was an independent truck driver. He was very proud of his Big Rig Truck. Hollis was a faithful member of Rising Star Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer and taught Sunday School. He loved to sing, especially singing with his family. He also loved the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed giving away Pete's Bar-B-Q sauce.
Hollis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lillian on May 8, 2016; his son, Charles Bedford, Sr. on March 16, 2021; four brothers and eight sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan Powdrell of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Patricia Joy of Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, James Oggs of Mineral Wells, Texas; one brother, Isaac "Ponie" Powdrell of Olney, Texas; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
