Jack quotDonquot Rux, Jr. age 63, of Olney, Texas, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Hospice of Wichita Falls, Texas. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Olney with Keith Davidson of the First Christian Church officiating and Scotte Clark of the Hamilton Street Church of Christ assisting. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour, Texas.
Don was born January 4, 1948 in Olney, Texas to the late Jack Donald and Lillian Blanche Sparks Rux, Sr. He and Jerry Blankenship were married on August 16,1991 in Seymour, Texas. Don graduated from Olney High School in 1966. He attended Texas AM University in College Station, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1970. He continued his studies, and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1973. Don served as a devoted veterinarian in Olney and the surrounding areas for many years. Don was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of former Students of Texas AM University. He was also a member of the American Legion, and was the recipient of the Pioneer Award from the Olney Chamber of Commerce for his 30 years of dedicated and loyal service to the community. Don served as a Captain in the United States Army from 19721976. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Olney.
Don is survived by his wife Jerry Rux of Olney, Texas two daughters Meredith Sanders and husband David of Graham, Texas, Cayleigh Anthony and husband Cody of Paradise, Texas two stepdaughters Carrie Jackson of Columbus, South Carolina, Cathy Simek and husband Jimmy of Seymour, Texas eight grandchildren: Marleigh Sanders, Sarah Sanders, Hunter Anthony, Hadleigh Anthony, Hayden Anthony, Jacob Simek, Jessica Simek, and Jordan Simek two sisters Linda Gilliam and husband Frank of Jacksboro, Texas, and Jackie Koetter of Wichita Falls, Texas two stepbrothers Robert Millican and Lowell Millican.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 67 p.m. at the funeral home.
