James A. McEwen was born to Nathaniel and Beatrice McEwen on January 29, 1926 in Megargel, Texas and went home to the Lord on March 28, 2014 from Granbury, Texas.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney on Sunday, March 30, 2014.
Graveside services and interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Megargel Cemetery on Sunday, March 30, 2014, with Scotte Clark of Olney, officiating.
A lifelong resident of Megargel, Jack as he was known to most, was an accomplished horseman and avid hunter, be it quail, coyotes or rattlesnakes.
Jack attended Megargel schools and served his country during World War II as Fireman 1st Class in the United States Navy. He was a pumper in the oil field until his retirement. Jack was a Lifetime member of the American Association of Sheriff Posses and Riding Clubs and participated in events until 4 years ago.
In July of 1951, J. A. and Maryrae Fleming were married in Clovis New Mexico, and he returned to Megargel with his bride where they made their home for over 50 years.
James is survived by his two daughters: Peggy Ford of Granbury and Terri Huyck of Abilene; grandson, Christopher Ford of Granbury, and granddaughters, Lisa Mattison of Houston, Sarah Huyck and Carrie Huyck of Abilene, and Amy Bremer of Crowley; six great-granddaughters: Annabella, Emily, Angelita, Caitlyn, Sadie and Abigail; three great-grandsons: Brady, Mark, and Alejandro. He is also survived by his sisters: Fay Johnson of Fort Worth, Gay Richardson of Seymour and brother, Donald W. McEwen of Bowie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his parents, wife Maryrae and infant son. Also, his sister June McWhorter, brother in laws Kenneth McWhorter, Robert Fleming, Lemoine Johnson and son-in-law Ron Huyck.
