James Lee "Red", "Redman", "Sonny" Gentry, age 67, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville, Texas. Graveside Services will be on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Megargel Cemetery in Megargel, Texas, with Rev. Jim Novak of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seymour, Texas officiating. Services are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney, Texas.
"Red" was born on November 18, 1945 in Olney, Texas to the late James H. and Agnes (Miller) Gentry. He started working at age thirteen farming, working in the oilfield as a roughneck and was a shadetree mechanic. He retired in 2004. "Red", who was affectionately known as "Sonny" to his family, was a lifelong resident of Megargel, Texas where he was a member of St. Mary of the Ascension Catholic Church and a member of the KJT of the Catholic Church. "Red" loved to ride around every afternoon and visit his many friends. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and rebuilding car engines. Later in his life, he loved watching old westerns and loved fill-in-puzzle books. He enjoyed watching NASCAR on television as well as watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers Baseball.
"Red" was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Gentry. He is survived by his three sisters, Florene Berend and husband Martin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary Hutchings and husband Rick of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Annette Gentry of Gainesville, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
