James Allen Short, age 80 of Clyde, Texas, died Sunday, March 6, 2022, in Abilene, Texas. Private graveside services will be at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

James was born February 13, 1942, in Olney, Texas to the late James Emmette Short and Edna Jencie Conder. He moved to Clyde, Texas in 2001 from Panhandle, Texas. He retired from Sears Department Store where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. James was a very hard worker and was always busy doing something. He loved working on race cars and spent time racing them. He loved Mary and all of his children with all of his heart.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lynn Short; a brother, Ronnie Short; and a granddaughter, Ashlea Lynn Jennings.

James is survived by his wife, Mary Hughes of Clyde, Texas; one son, James Aaron Short of Abilene, Texas; two daughters: Dinah Gail Stanton of Hereford, Texas and Rhonda Lee Short of Midland, Texas; five sisters: Jody Ryen and Brenda Brooks both of Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico, Linda White of Hereford, Texas, Carolyn Wheeler of Wichita Falls, Texas and Cynthie Sparks of Boys Ranch, Texas; two sisters-in-law: Tina Hughes and Tammy Thurman both of Abilene, Texas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
