James Odell Smith, age 76 of Loving, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Graham Oaks Care Center in Graham, Texas. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Farmer Cemetery in Farmer, Texas.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

James was born on January 21, 1947 in Archer City, Texas to the late August Buchell Smith and Nola Margaret (Harris) Smith. He married Jean Grisham and she preceded him in death in 2018. He served his country proudly in the United States Army serving two tours in Vietnam. James was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and collecting antiques. He also love anything related to the United States Army. James loved his little dog "Max" and he was a constant companion. He enjoyed spending time with his niece Missy sharing her sweet tea and cookies, and he would often times get caught sneaking cookies outside to give to his favorite outside dog "Boss". James loved to go fishing on the pier with his brother J.B. of Denton.

James is survived by one brother, John Buchell "J.B." Smith of Lewisville, Texas; one sister, Patsy Jean Bates of Archer City, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
