Janet Nix, age 84, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Olney with Chad Edgington, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Janet was born on September 8, 1932 in Olney, Texas to the late Lawrence Durwood Crain and Lily Rutherford Crain. She was a lifetime resident of Olney and the Crain family farm in Young County. She graduated Olney High School in 1949 where she was a drummer and twirler in the band, in Y-teens, on the Cubettes Drill Team, played volleyball, and on the Cubs Paw staff. She married Douglas Nix on October 16, 1952 in Olney. Her compassion for people and love for children was evident during the many years she worked at Lovett-Meredith Clinic and with her many beloved "kindergarten kids" at Olney Elementary School. Janet was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olney, Retired Teacher's Association, Garden Club, Square Dance Club, and Olney PTA. She was also a past member of the Ladies Golf Association in Olney and had served as president. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas Nix on August 6, 2009; and her daughter-in-law, Jeana Nix on October 27, 2003.

Janet is survived by one son, Gregory Del Nix of Leander, Texas; one daughter, Angela Jan Koemel of Throckmorton, Texas; five grandchildren: Joshua Nix, Bryce Nix, Newt Koemel, Alayna Jan Koemel, Kolt Koemel; and two sisters: Shirley Regas of Dallas, Texas, and Betty Schmidt of Olney, Texas.

Family visitation will be Monday, February 6, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
