Our precious aunt, Jimmie Lou Wainscott, passed away peacefully December 12, 2015. She will be missed, but her entire family will remember her for her love of family, of life and of travel. She will also be remembered for her cooking, painting and especially the documentation of every event with her Super 8 movie camera. She never married, so she was our friend, our playmate, our mother when mother wasn't around, our grandmother when grandmother wasn't around, and our beloved aunt. Her nieces and nephews were her children: James Martin, Stacey Martin Dilger, Karen Snow Barton and Becky Snow Goldsmith.
Jimmie was born July 16, 1925 in Tokio, Texas to Melvin and Christine Wainscott. She graduated from North Texas University in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education. In 1967, she earned a Master's Degree in Family Economics and Consumer Buying from Texas Woman's University. She continued post graduate work at several institutions. Jimmie Lou served 34 years with the Texas Agricultural Extension Services of Texas A&M and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She served in the following counties: Wichita, Childress, Jones, Parmer, Hidalgo, Gray, Lipscomb and Dickens. In 1959, she was bestowed The Distinguished Service Award by the Director of the Federal Extension Service. She was a member of many professional organizations. Before she moved to Fort Worth, she was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Olney where she also enjoyed quilting with "Sue's Quilters".
Jimmie was preceded in death by her father, Melvin C. Wainscott; her mother, Alice Christine Morris Wainscott; and her sister, Christine Lanell Wainscott Snow. She is survived by one sister, Melva Jane Wainscott Martin. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Karen and Larry Barton, Becky and John Goldsmith, Stacey and Curtis Dilger, James and Judy Martin, Courtney and Ryan Hetzer, Eric and Jenn Barton, Alex Hamilton, Daniel Feid, Danielle Martin, Amber Bailey, Jonathan Goldsmith, Allison Goldsmith, and her "special great-grandchildren" Landry, Keeley and Duncan Hetzer.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Olney with Rev. Harrell Braddock, Jr., pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
