John Story, age 73, died Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, with Scotte Clark, officiating, assisted by John Story III. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

John was born on February 21, 1945 in Artesia, New Mexico to the late John Edgar Story and Donna (Davis) Story. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years and completed three tours of duty in Vietnam where he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. He moved to Olney in 1972 from Lubbock, Texas. He and Gail Womack were married on June 2, 1975 in Hurst, Texas. John was a lineman for Fort Belknap Electric for seventeen years until his retirement. John was a member of the Church of Christ, the Masonic Lodge and the VFW #5401. He studied his Bible daily and loved to read and collect all kinds of books. He loved to work at the small farm at Padgett. He also broke horses and loved to teach his grandkids to ride. John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Myrna Goodson, and his grandson, W.P. Stephens, IV.

John is survived by his wife, Gail Story of Olney; two sons: John Edgar Story III and wife Mandy of Henrietta and Darren Jordan and wife Elizabeth of Graham; one daughter, Leigh Ann Stephens and husband Steve of Olney; one brother, Carl Story and wife Maco of Weatherford; one sister, Gladys Speck and husband Jimmie of Overton; one brother-in-law, Don Goodson of Longview; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
