Johnny Horany, age 98, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at the Mission Ridge Residential Care in Plano, Texas. Celebration services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Olney with Scotte Clark of Olney, officiating. Private family burial will be in the Archer City Cemetery in Archer City, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Johnny was born on April 17, 1915 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to the late Shukry and Nabeehah (Mahfood) Horany. He graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Business Science. He moved to Olney in 1937 from Austin, Texas, and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Olney. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Johnny was owner and operator of Horany's Department Store in Olney with his brother, Freddy until his retirement. He married Buena Harrell on July 26, 1955 in Graham, Texas. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2003. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Johnny is survived by his daughter, Sarah Watkins and husband Jim of Plano, Texas; brother, Freddy Horany and wife Lou of Olney; two sisters-in-law: Lucille Hays of Olney and Virginia Horany of Wichita Falls; two granddaughters: Allison Watkins and Eleanor Watkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
