Johnny Leon
Posey
July 28, 1951 – September 15, 2025
Johnny Leon Posey, 74, of Megargel, Texas, passed away on September 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held at the Megargel Cemetery Pavilion on Monday, September 22nd, 2025, at 2 pm with Pastor Dan Hooper officiating. Military honors will be provided. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas.
Johnny was born on July 28, 1951, in Olney, Texas to the late Ocie and Mabel (Doan) Posey. He married Charlotte Oliver on March 13, 1984, and spent forty one years together before he preceded her in death. Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1972-1975 as a Redeye Gunner stationed in Germany. His commanding officer praised him for his "integrity and intelligence," noting his reliability and professionalism throughout his service. His commander concluded that "Specialist Posey would be an asset to any organization – a fine, upstanding gentleman." Johnny received an Honorable Discharge and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Johnny was a man who lived with quiet strength, unwavering courage, and a deep love for his family. He brought the same dedication and integrity from his military service to everything he did throughout his life. Even in his battle with cancer, he showed us what it means to fight with grace and dignity.
He was stubborn in the best way, never giving up, always pushing forward, and teaching us that love sometimes means being the strong one when others can't be. His wisdom, subtle sense of humor and calm bravery touched everyone who knew him.
Johnny was a devoted husband and father who taught his family the true meaning of truth, honor, and loyalty. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and in his family, who will carry on his strength, values, and love.
Johnny is preceded in death by his son, Ricky Posey; his mother, Mabel Posey; his father, Ocie Posey; brothers Wayne Posey and Lewis Posey; and sister Darlie Guerra.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Charolette Posey; son Keith Posey; daughter Kayla Posey; grandson Ryle Posey-Dunn; sister Joyce Kellar; and many nieces and nephews.
He fought the good fight. He kept the faith. He finished the course. Rest easy, soldier.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
