Obituary

Junior N. Lackey, age 91 of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Olney, Texas, died Friday, May 27, 2022, at Brookdale Senior Living in Georgetown. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Deral McWhorter, officiating, assisted by his grandson, Zane Witcher. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. immediately prior to the service. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Junior was born on August 17, 1930 in Loving, Texas to the late Noah B. Lackey and Beatrice (Sadler) Lackey. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He received many medals including the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. He married Neta F. Stapp on January 25, 1952 in Bonham, Texas, and they moved to Olney in 1953. They made Olney their home until 2018 when they moved to be near their daughter Renee. They celebrated 69 years of marriage prior to Neta's death. Junior was a well known auto mechanic in Olney and he especially loved to work on Fords. He taught Auto Mechanics at Olney High School for many years and his students valued the lessons he taught them. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: James Lackey and Douglas Lackey; three sisters: Virginia Baker, Donna Rife and Peggy Damron; his wife, Neta on April 1, 2021, and his son, David on November 27, 2021.

Junior is survived by one daughter, Renee Witcher and husband Bert of Georgetown; daughter-in-law, Darlene Lackey of Wichita Falls; two grandchildren, Amanda Arroyo and husband Peter of San Antonio and Zane Witcher and wife Carolina of Round Rock; two great-grandchildren, P.J. Arroyo and Pierce Arroyo; and two sisters, Dortha Lackey and Linda Wells both of Abilene.
