Obituary

Keith McCarson of Megargel, Texas, walked through Heavens Gates on September 27, 2012. His family and friends believe he walked in carrying a 60 pound sack of feed on one shoulder and a rope in the other hand. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the Throckmorton High School Auditorium in Throckmorton, Texas, with Ras Robinson of the Fullness in Christ Ministry of Ft. Worth, Texas officiating. A visitation will follow immediately after the service at the Ash Arena in Throckmorton. Arrangements are under the ion of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Keith was born on November 16, 1948 in Olney, Texas to G.B. and Laverne Manuel McCarson. Keith graduated from Throckmorton High School in Throckmorton, Texas in 1967. He loved athletics and played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. He won many honors for his athletic abilities, including Honorable Mention AllState Quarterback. One sportswriter dubbed him The Golden Toe of Throckmorton because he never missed an extra point. Keith was also in many clubs and organizations. He also received numerous honors, including Mr. THS and Most Likely to Succeed his Senior year. He was known in school as the guy that everyone wanted to be around. Keith attended Texas Tech University. He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Chemistry. He put himself through college by breaking and training horses.

Keith moved to Megargel, Texas in 1973, and he and his father G.B. McCarson formed a partnership. They purchased McCarson Grain and later expanded to include McCarson Feed, also in Megargel. Keith is known throughout the area as a hard working man who would do anything for his friends and customers. G.B. and Keith also began the ranch in Throckmorton County. With the addition of Karen sister and Ken Youngblood to the partnership, it is now known as McCarsonYoungblood Ranch.

Keith married Susan Hays on July 14, 1979 in Olney, Texas. They met in May, married that July and were together for thirtythree years. They had two children, Kristi and Clay. Keith cooked breakfast for the family every morning, helped with homework every night, but was banned from the laundry room for washing reds and whites. He will be remembered as a faithful, caring husband and giving, loving father.

Keiths passion was working with horses and roping. He belonged to several team roping associations and won numerous belt buckles and saddles. He was happiest when he roped with family and friends at the roping pen in Elbert, Texas. He loved to read and listen to music, especially southern gospel quartets and music of the 1950s. He also enjoyed watching sports and anything on the Western Channel.

Keith was preceded in death by his father G.B. McCarson. He is survived by his wife Susan of the home, daughter Kristi of New York City, son Clay and wife Krissa of Westover, Texas, and two precious grandchildren, Maci Lee and David Keith mother Laverne McCarson of Elbert, Texas sister Karen and husband Ken of Elbert, Texas and Abel Big Brother Granandos Ramires of Westover, Texas. Keith is also survived by a large family, the Throckmorton Class of 1967 and a large circle of friends.

Keith will always be remembered for his firm handshake, big heart and colorful language.
