Linda Gail (Meadows) Smith

Linda Gail (Meadows) Smith, age 82, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025, at her home in Olney, Texas. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Olney at 1:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Linda Gail (Meadows) Smith was born June 17, 1943, in the Graham Hospital to Robert Leroy and Ometa May (Dunlap) Meadows of Throckmorton, Texas. Linda always felt special because she was born on her father's birthday. Linda passed peacefully at home on July 5, 2025, at the age of 82. She graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1961 and enrolled in San Angelo College. After a year in San Angelo, Linda enrolled in the School of Radiologic Technology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and became a registered X-ray technician.

Linda met and married William Royce (Bill) Smith at Baylor Hospital, and they had three children: Robert Murray (Bob), Kelly Bryan, and Stephanie Gail. They moved to Olney, Texas, in 1966 to join the community that they grew to love as home. Linda worked at First National Bank of Olney, then at Thomas-Milford Cementing Company, before finding her favorite place as a secretary at Olney Elementary School. She supported all school events, and we always knew where to find her in the stands, her secret stash of candy at the ready. She was honored by the Chamber of Commerce with the "Beyond The Call Of Duty" award in 2007 for her love and dedication to the school and students. Linda retired from Olney Independent School District in August 2014 after 41 wonderful years of service.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years on February 9, 2018, her father in 1984, and her mother in 1998.

She is survived by her children, Bob of Midland, Texas; Kelly of Olney, Texas; Stephanie of Mesquite, Texas; daughter-in-love Dede Smith Green of Dallas, Texas; and Kevin Terry of Midland, Texas, whom she loved as her son. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jenna Gail Smith of Mesquite, Texas, and Rachel Lesniak of Olney, Texas, as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Kenneth Rogers of Olney, Texas, along with treasured nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
