Maple E. Thomas, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Scotte Clark officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas. Arrangements are under the ion of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Maple E. Smith Watson Thomas was born on September 14, 1916 to the late William Larry and Nettie Lee Mullins Smith in Bell County Texas. Her family moved to Haskell County when she was a baby. She lived in Haskell all of her life until she moved to Olney in 2009. Maple was a lifetime member of the Paint Creek Methodist Church where she was active in many church activities. She married Arthur Ott Watson on February 22, 1936. They lived in Haskell County, and farmed near the Paint Creek community. In 1956, they moved into town, and Maple worked at Wheatleys Menswear store and later at M System Super Market. Mr. Watson preceded her in death in May 1992. In August 1997, she and John Thomas were married. He preceded her in death in October 2009. After his death, she moved to Olney, Texas to be near her daughter. She was a resident of Seven Oaks Nursing Home until her death. Maple was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, her son, Kendel E. Watson on September 15, 1969, and her grandson Brandon B. Holcombe on December 25, 2000.

Maple is survived by her daughter, Sue Watson Holcombe and husband John Lee of Olney, Texas grandsons, Monty S. Holcombe and wife Leslie of College Station, Texas and Larry Keith Sanders and family of San Antonio, Texas granddaughter, Shonna L. Watson Felkel and husband Hollis Chip of Greenville, South Carolina four great grandchildren: Hayden and Hudson Holcombe, and Ethan and Addison Felkel.
