Margie Morris Mixon, age 93, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Scotte Clark of Olney, officiating, assisted by Rev. Harrell Braddock, Jr., pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Olney. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Margie was born on May 29, 1921 in Springcreek, Texas to the late Samuel Alfred Morris and Mattie Emma (Green) Morris. She attended elementary school in Springcreek and she graduated from Olney High School in 1938. Margie attended Sul Ross University and North Texas State College. She taught school at Lueders, Texas for three years and also at the Engleside School. She moved to Olney in 1943 from True, Texas. Margie graduated from the George B. Hamilton School of Nursing in 1968. She worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Hamilton Hospital in Olney for seventeen years. Margie was also the bookkeeper at Shamburger Lumber Yard and O.K. Motor Service. She married the love of her life, Stanley McDonald on June 20, 1939 in Olney at the First Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1943. She then married Otto Mixon on November 15, 1945 in Olney at the First Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1983.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Darlene Kissinger on October 6, 2012; grandson, Phillip Nantz on August 28, 1979; and two brothers, Foy Morris on June 29, 1956 and Roy Morris on July 23, 2000.
Margie is survived by her daughter, Patricia Mixon of Olney, Texas; three nieces: Martha Cogburn of Farmers Branch, Texas, Nancy Bachman of True Community, Texas, and Sandra Kee of Graham, Texas; many nephews, cousins, friends and family, and her beloved family friends, J. R. Smith and Andrew Clinton.
Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Lunn Funeral Home.
