Maricela (Chela) Esquivel, age 65, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at U.T. Southwestern, in Dallas, Texas. Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Dr. Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church Olney, officiating.  Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Chela was born on July 28, 1958, in Eagle Pass, Texas to the late Pedro and Antonia Maria (Gurola) Velasquez. She taught at Headstart, in Olney, Texas, for thirty years and took pleasure in helping and nurturing the children while she was there. She was well known for her sweet, loving and caring personality. She was fond of spending time with her siblings, children, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. Chela loved to go shopping, whether it be in store or online. She also spent many evenings watching her favorite television programs.

Chela is survived by her significant other, Rudy Perez of Olney; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Joe and Brittney Esquivel of Olney, Texas and Jaime Santos Esquivel, Jr. of Eagle Pass, Texas; daughter and son-in-law: Jessica and Marquis Fails of Burkburnett, Texas; three brothers: George Valdez of Modesto, California; Pete Velasquez of Wichita Falls, Texas and Rene Velasquez of Wichita Falls, Texas; three sisters: Virginia Garcia of Olney, Texas, Nellie Razavizadeh of Wichita Falls, Texas and Connie Rodriguez of Wichita Falls, Texas; the father of her children, Jaime Santos Esquivel, Sr. of Eagle Pass, Texas; twelve grandchildren: Alyexis, Jayce, Jazmyne, Kadence, Daven, Jacobi, Josslyn, Addy, Jordyn, Vaneli, Jaimito, and Mia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
