IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martin
Lee
March 9, 1937 – November 19, 2025
Martin Lee, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Hamilton Hospital in Olney, Texas. Memorial services will be announced and held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Martin was born on March 9, 1937, in Walker, Arkansas, to the late James Alvin Lee and Athaline Martin Lee. Martin was named after his maternal grandfather, who was the community doctor in Martinville, Arkansas. Martinville was named after the Martin family. Martin was raised on the family farm in Martinville, Arkansas, where they raised and sold pork, milk, butter, vegetables, other commodities, and processed animals for other families. Martin's primary responsibility as a young boy, until he left home, was preparing, planting, caring for, hoeing, and harvesting an acre of cucumbers. Martin wouldn't touch a pickle, much less eat one. In high school, Martin was an outstanding athlete, excelling in basketball and track. Martin was known as a practical joker even in his younger years. Martin moved to Texas and met the love of his life, Margaret Janeta Wainscott. They married on November 13, 1957, in her parents' living room in Olney, Texas. They were married for sixty-seven years before Janeta passed in December 2024.
Martin was a jack-of-all-trades and held several jobs throughout his life. He worked for AT&T as a lineman, was an automotive mechanic, became an HVAC technician and electrician at OPEX, and later owned Lee Repair. Martin and his wife worked together at the same business for over 58 years. Martin could fix just about anything; this usually required a lot of southern engineering, including baling wire and duct tape.
Martin and Janeta were very supportive of the local Boy Scout troop 584 and served as Girl Scout leaders. They went on numerous campouts, canoe trips, and traveled around the country with both the scouts and close friends. In the summertime, Martin and Janeta took loads of kids water skiing nearly every weekend. Martin was an excellent water skier with his signature of taking off standing on the beach or jumping off a dock, usually with a cigarette in his mouth that never went out. In his later years, Martin enjoyed farming, spending time with his grandchildren, and attending as many of their events as he could. He could hardly be found watching anything on television except old westerns.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law: Scotty and Phyllis Lee of Olney, Texas and Michael Lee of Olney, Texas; three grandchildren: Miranda Lee of Olney, Texas, John "JT" Lee of Olney, Texas and Samuel Lee of Olney, Texas; two great-grandchildren: McKenna Lee of Olney, TX and Charlie Lee of Olney, Texas; one sister Peggy Patton of Texarkana, Texas.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, Delores Branan, and two brothers, William and Dickey Lee.
Memorial donations in memory of Martin can be made to the Olney Hamilton Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 158, Olney, Texas 76374, or to Southside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 155, Olney, Texas 76374.
