Melba McCarson celebrated her 101st birthday on April 8, 2015. On July 9, 2015, she passed from this life to begin her eternal life in Heaven with her Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Elbert Baptist Church in Elbert, Texas with Marty Light, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Throckmorton Cemetery in Throckmorton, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Melba was born on April 8, 1914 near Ft. Griffin in Shackelford County, Texas to the late James Monroe Shelton and Martha Judah (Ledbetter) Shelton. She married Burl Bryan McCarson on November 26, 1934 in Elbert, Texas. He preceded her in death in March 1973. She was a longtime resident of Elbert where she was a member of the Elbert Baptist Church. She loved her family, her church and her neighbors. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Joe Shelton, John Shelton, Dick Shelton and Pete Shelton; and three sisters: Janie Guest, Anna Bowser and Sally Perkins.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy L. McCarson and wife Kay of Elbert, Texas; two grandsons: Trent McCarson and wife Debbie of Tuttle, Oklahoma and Brad McCarson and wife Charlotte of Elbert, Texas; five great-grandchildren: Amy McCarson of Olney, Texas, Morgan McCarson of Elbert, Texas, Mandy Montgomery and husband Steven of Graham, Texas, Bryan McCarson and wife Jodey of Waxahachie, Texas and Russell McCarson of Victoria, Texas; and five great-great grandchildren: Emily Pennycuff, Colton Pennycuff, Natalie Montgomery, Carson Montgomery and Tripp Montgomery.
Family visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
