Melinda Helen McNutt Ferrell, passed away on November 14, 2023 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 83.

Melinda was born January 1, 1940 to Charles C and Helen Katherine Fair McNutt in Longview, Texas. Melinda moved to Olney in 1946 and graduated from Olney High School as a charter member of the Class of 1958.

On November 18, 1961, she married Johnny Pat Ferrell of Dallas at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Olney, Texas.  Melinda and Pat had two son's born in Oklahoma City before settling down in Austin in 1970.

Melinda received a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and M.A from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Melinda entered the Austin Independent School District in 1971 as a teacher and librarian where she served for over 40 years.

Melinda was preceded in death by her husband Pat Ferrell (1977), Father Charles C. McNutt, Sr, Mother Helen McNutt, Half-brother Lt. Charles C. McNutt, Jr., Half-sister Virginia McNutt Stansbury

She is survived by Son Douglas Alan Ferrell, Sr, wife Catherine, Son Mark Raymond Ferrell, wife Betty, Grandchildren: Stephanie Ferrell, Douglas Ferrell Jr of Austin, John Ferrell, wife Katie and Allyson Ferrell of Centerville, OH.  Great-grandchildren: Jayden Melby of Austin, Ikota Boyer, Ethan Ferrell and Evelyn Ferrell of Centerville, Ohio. Sister Lucy Anne Slaten and husband Dwayne of Lake Bridgeport, Nephews: Carter Slaten and wife Jody, Kelly Slaten and wife Kylie and Half-brother Robert W. McNutt of Gilmer.

Visitation and Rosary will be at Lunn Funeral Home Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10AM followed by Funeral service 2PM at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Olney, TX.
