Obituary

Mike Berkey, age 43 of Iowa Park, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas with Aaron Terrell, officiating. Interment will follow at Elbert Cemetery in Elbert, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Mike was born on November 7, 1980, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to Rodney Miney and Carol Irene Berkey. He served 14 years in the United States Air Force specializing in Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration and retired in 2014 at the rank of TSgt. He received many medals and commendations including the Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters and the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, he taught HVAC and Electrical Engineering at Sheppard Air Force Base for 9 years and retired in 2023. Mike married Amy McCarson on March 20, 2020 in Wichita Falls and they made their home in Iowa Park. He loved his wife and kids unconditionally. He liked to work on things in his garage and could be found there tinkering on things for hours. Mike was a true friend and would do anything to help his friends and family. He loved to joke around and his big laugh was easily recognizable.  One of his favorite hobbies was riding motorcycles.

Mike is survived by his mother and father, Carol and Rod Miney of Bolivar, Pennsylvania; his wife, Amy McCarson Berkey of Iowa Park, Texas; one step-daughter, Emilee Pennycuff of Iowa Park, Texas; one step-son, Colton Pennycuff of Iowa Park, Texas; his grandmother, Alice Edwards of Bolivar, Pennsylvania; numerous aunts and uncles along with many cousins.
