Oleta Strickland Mayes, age 94, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at Hamilton Hospital in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Scotte Clark, of Olney, officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Oleta was born on December 7, 1920 in Loving, Texas to the late Clarence Irving "Curly" and Dollie Laura (West) Strickland. She was a lifelong resident of the area and had worked for thirty-plus years as a nurses aid at Seven Oaks Nursing Home in Olney. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Sandra Blair, one sister, Velma Doan and one brother, J.B. Strickland.

Oleta is survived by her son, Jerry Moreland of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Shirley Barrett and husband Elden of Lorena, Texas; four grandchildren: Kevin Barrett and wife Ly of Arlington, Texas, Krista Barrett of Lorena, Texas, Matthew Blair of Houston, Texas, Scott Blair of Austin, Texas; sister, Louise Miller; and three great-grandchildren: David Barrett, Sandra Blair and Olivia Blair.

Family visitation will be on Friday, February 20, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
