Obituary

Oretha A. Dodd Carr, age 93, passed on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Care Nursing and Rehab in Early, Texas, where she had been a short time resident. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, with Scotte Clark, minister of Hamilton Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
She was born Oretha Algerine Morgan, September 2, 1925, in Lipan, Texas to Nettie Zeolah (Ford) and Dirris Clarence Morgan. She moved with her parents to Newcastle, Texas in 1941. There she met and married Roland C. Dodd on January 31, 1942, just prior to his deployment with the Army during WWII.
They moved to Olney, Texas in 1947, where they lived and raised their family. Oretha was a housewife during her children's school years. She then worked in the Housekeeping Department at Hamilton Hospital from 1969 until 1974 and, after Roland's death, from October 1977 until January 1979.
She and Dennie C. Carr were married January 22, 1979. They lived in Jean, Texas and enjoyed their land, animals, and garden.
Oretha enjoyed making crocheted Christmas ornaments to sell and give to family and friends. They were special gifts to the people that she gave them to.
She was a member of the Hamilton Street Church of Christ in Olney, Texas, where she worked at the church's Service Center and participated in other church activities.
In 2011, she moved to Early, Texas, where she lived with her son, Bennie and his wife, Linda. In Early, she attended the Early Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Roland Dodd and Dennie Carr, father, Dirris C. Morgan, mother, Zeolah Morgan Ward, her stepfather, R. P. Ward, and her beloved Daughter-in-Law, Linda McCauley Dodd.
She is survived by her son, Bennie Dodd, and daughter, Gloria Hotze, both of Early, TX; step-son Kenneth Carr and wife, Betty, of Denton, Texas; 2 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
