Raymond Nathaniel Lunn, Jr., passed away September 6, 2014, at his home in Wichita Falls. Services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Isaac Butterworth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the ion of Lunns Colonial Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 ~ 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Ray was born to Elizabeth Byrd and Raymond Lunn, Sr., in Olney, Texas on January 14, 1934. He attended schools in Olney and graduated from Texas Tech University. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and a lifelong supporter of the University. Ray and Valine Henderson were married in her hometown of Gruver, Texas on August 31, 1954. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Three sons were born into this union: Raymond Nathaniel III, Kyle Alfred and Will Zachary.
After finishing college, Ray worked for his dad and grandfather in the family business, Lunn Furniture and Funeral Home in Olney for two years. He then decided to follow his dream. He coached basketball and football in Seymour and Gruver. In 1961 the family moved to Wichita Falls where he accepted a position on Rider High Schools first coaching staff. As time passed and his interests diversified, he began to farm and ranch full time. He had farming, ranching and oil interests in Archer, Baylor, Hansford, Roberts and Wichita Counties.
In 1986, he opened Lunns Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. He later opened Falls Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Wichita Falls. He also bought his familys funeral home in Olney, as well as Memorial Funeral Home in Seymour.
He said he felt fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue the things in life he always wanted to accomplish. However, his greatest love was his family.
Ray was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Rotary Club and was on the board of directors of the Midwestern State University Foundation. He was also longtime board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Wichita Falls.
He was preceded in death by his first granddaughter Natalie.
He is survived by his wife Valine sons, Nat and his wife Terri of Wichita Falls, Kyle, of Dallas, and Will and his wife Helen of Wichita Falls his brother Don and wife Laura of Lake Graham, his sister-in-law Rita Williams and husband Jerry and his grandchildren: Kate and husband Chase Richardson of Wichita Falls, Reagan and wife Ashley of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Adam and wife Kaylee of Argyle, Cuatro and wife Lindsey of Wichita Falls, Zac and wife Laura of Dallas, Ty of Wichita, Kansas, and Elizabeth of Wichita Falls. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Parker, Lyla, Jacob, Cinco, Lilly and Drake.
