Robert O. Kellar, age 73, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at his home in Olney, Texas. Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Dr. Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church Olney, officiating. Interment will follow at Megargel Cemetery in Megargel, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Robert was born on July 6, 1950, in Hollis, Oklahoma to the late William O. Kellar and Ella Mae (Barker) Kellar. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 27, 1968, and served valiantly as an Amphibious Tractor crewman during the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards and medals including the rifle Sharpshooter Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Purple Heart Medal. He received his honorable discharge on March 3, 1970. Robert and Darla Dobbs were married on November 22, 2004 in Olney. He was a truck driver in the oilfield until his retirement. Robert enjoyed fishing, camping and playing pool. He was a bull rider in his younger days and traveled all over the United States to participate in rodeos. He also loved to travel and made several trips abroad and across the United States. Robert served as Commander of the Olney American Legion for nearly 15 years. Above all, he loved his kids and grandkids and was an amazing Dad.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Teddy Ladd; his brother, Gary Kellar; and three sisters: Merita Davis, Wanda Johnson and Nelva Fenley.
Robert is survived by his wife, Darla Dobbs of Olney; two sons: Thomas Bowman of Eugene, Oregon and Donald Richards and his three children of Washington; seven daughters: Tamara Huege of Yanhill, Oregon, Heather Kellar of Eugene, Oregon, Corrie Castro of Wichita Falls, Texas, Chasity Kincy of Clinton, Missouri, Belinda Wilcox of Wichita Falls, Texas, Heather Hambrick of Olney and Brittney Esquivel of Olney; two brothers: Jerry Kellar of Coos Bay, Oregon and Jackie Kellar of Olney; one sister, Donella McDougal of Megargel; grandchildren: Danny Penrose, Shawn Penrose, Ryan Huege, Teddi Lynn Ladd, Timmy Howe, Jacob Smiedle, Jo Jo Curl, Paris Curl, Kalub Smiedle, Cameron Jacoba, Jon Guerra, Preston Guerra, Erika Guerra, Sydney Kincy, Courtney Perez, Brooklyn Alvarez, Brian Struck, Joshua Wilcox, Jr., Jaiden Ford, Alexis Esquivel, Jayce Esquivel, Kadence Garza, Daven Garza, Jacobi Esquivel, Josslyn Esquivel, Addyson Esquivel and Jordyn Esquivel; nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
