Obituary

Ruth Baker Young, 88, died on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas with Andy Graham, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Ruth was born on February 14, 1926, in Burkburnett, Texas, to the late R.B. and Altie Mae (Denton) Baker. She was a 1947 graduate of the Wichita General Hospital School of Nursing, and had worked as a Registered Nurse for sixty-two years at local hospitals and nursing homes. She was Past President of Wichita General Hospital Alumni Association. She was Director of Nurses at Seven Oaks Nursing Home in Olney for fifteen years. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star Faith Chapter of Wichita Falls in 1949, and served as a Post Matron. Ruth was a member of the Ladies Golf Association of Olney and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Olney. She married Harry W. Young on September 14, 1946 in Olney. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2008. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: Kenneth Baker, W.L. Baker, Louis Baker, R.B. Baker, and Roy Lee Baker; and, one sister, Edith McGaughy.

Ruth is survived by her two sons: Robert Young and wife Jackie of Ft. Worth and Harry Young, Jr. and friend Robin Greer of Burleson; daughter, Joni Barron of Ft. Worth; sister, Zola Mae Owens of Olney; five grandchildren: Doni Barron of Brownwood, Jason Barron and wife Virginia of Menard, Jennifer McDermott and husband James of Menard, Tai Shelton and husband Jerry of Mesquite, Callie Young of Longview; six great-grandchildren: Kennedy R. Barron, Channing A. Barron, Noah M. Barron, Nathan R. Barron, Anthony Hardeman, and Sidney Hardeman.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
