Samuel Smith, age 97, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023, at his home in Megargel, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas. Private family graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Padgett Cemetery in Padgett, Texas with Paul McQueen, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Samuel was born on July 10, 1926, in Guthrie, Texas to the late Lawrence and Eula Fay (Robinson) Smith. He served his country proudly in The United States Navy in the Asiatic Pacific American Area aboard several ships during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Signalman Second Class on May 6, 1946. Samuel married Ruth Brooks on November 11, 1948 in Pecos, Texas. They moved from Odessa to Megargel in 1960.  He worked in the oilfield for many years and also was a farmer and rancher. Samuel always liked helping others and he could work on anything; he was a "fix it yourself" kind of guy.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Ruth Smith of Megargel; two sons and daughters-in-law: Lawrence and Julie Smith of Megargel and Tilden and Gayle Smith of Moore, Oklahoma; one daughter and son-in-law, Kellie and Bruce Bellah of Elbert; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special family friend, Harold Livingston of Megargel.
